FAQ

ShopDurvy FAQ

What is ShopDurvy?

ShopDurvy is a specialized store focused exclusively on sump pump replacement kits. We help homeowners replace a sump pump without guessing which fittings, adapters, or parts are needed.

What exactly am I buying?

You’re buying a sump pump replacement kit designed to match your setup. Depending on the kit you choose, it will likely include all of the items below (sometimes more, sometimes less):

A sump pump

Check valve

Fittings/adapters for discharge size

Clamps / connectors

Other install-related parts needed to complete a typical replacement

Water alarm

Power alarm

Is this a “one size fits all” kit?

No — and that’s the whole point.

Most sump pump replacement problems happen because the parts don’t match the existing setup. We configure your kit based on your system so you’re not ordering random parts from multiple websites.

How does the process work?

You have two options:

Option 1 — Call / Email / Text us
Tell us the problem, send a few photos, and provide what information you can.
(You do not need to guess — we will follow up with the right questions.)

Option 2 — Order the kit if you already know your pump size (1/3 HP, 1/2 HP, or 1 HP)
Place your order and we will follow up with you to confirm everything before building the kit.

Then we finalize your kit and ship it.

Do I need plumbing experience to replace my sump pump?

No. Most homeowners can do this.

If you’re comfortable with basic tools and following instructions, you can replace a sump pump — and we can also walk you through it over the phone.

Do you offer phone support?

Yes. We provide real support after your kit arrives so you’re not doing this alone.

How do I know what horsepower (HP) I need?

That depends on your home and sump pit conditions. Many homeowners go down the “HP rabbit hole.”

If you aren’t sure, we can help you choose a kit that fits your situation based on a few simple questions.

What discharge size do I need (1.25", 1.5", 2")?

The most common residential size is 1.5", but some setups vary.

If you aren’t sure, don’t guess — we’ll help confirm this after checkout (photos are usually enough).

Can I use my existing discharge pipe and check valve?

You can — but we generally prefer to replace the interior parts because it reduces install issues and future leaks.

Note: We are not replacing the pipes that are outside or underground. We’re mainly replacing the interior discharge piping and related parts.

Why do you use DEWALT pumps?

10-year warranty

Heavy-duty construction (cast iron / stainless steel)

Cast iron base + stainless steel housing = corrosion-resistant and built to last

100% copper motor windings

Dual O-ring motor seals

CSA and SSPMA certified for quality, safety, and performance

Trusted basement drainage to prevent residential flooding

Can I order if I can install everything myself but want to save time?

Yes — skip the Saturday morning trip to the store.

Can your kit work with all sump pump setups?

Almost all standard residential setups — yes.

There are a few uncommon situations (very old systems, unusual discharge layouts, specialty piping, or unique pit configurations). That’s why we confirm your setup with photos/questions after purchase.

Does the kit include a water alarm?

Yes — all kits come with an alarm.

Will I have to glue PVC pipe?

Most likely, no.

We designed the kit to eliminate that step for most sump pump setups.

Do I need to cut the PVC pipe?

Most likely, no.

We designed the kit to eliminate that step for most sump pump setups.

What tools do I need?

Most installs can be done with basic tools, such as:

Flathead screwdriver

Tape measure

Rag / paper towels (cleanup)

Optional: shop vac / bucket for pit cleanup

Temporary lighting (if needed)

How do I know the check valve is working?

Our check valves have a clear body made of thermoplastic polymer that lets you see if the water is sitting on top of the interior flapper that keeps the water from backflowing.

(This makes much more sense once you see it installed and run water through the pump.)

Should I test the pump after install?

Yes — always.

Once installed, you should test it by filling the pit with water (many homeowners use a garden hose) until the float switch activates. This confirms:

Pump turns on correctly

Water discharges properly

No leaks

Check valve behavior looks right

Do you test the DEWALT pump before you ship?

Every time.

If I install this with your help, can I tell my friends I did it all by myself?

Yes. We encourage it.

Do you offer returns?

Because kits may be configured to your setup, returns depend on what was opened/used and what was customized.

If you have an issue, contact us — we’ll make it right.

If I don’t currently have a sump pump, can I use your kit?

Most likely, no.

Our kits are primarily built for replacing an existing sump pump setup, not building an entire system from scratch.

I’m worried I’ll mess this up. Should I call a plumber instead?

If you want to hire it out, that’s completely fine.

If you can use a screwdriver and a tape measure, then I would give it a shot.
